One in four teens in a relationship say they have been called names, harassed or put down by their partner through cell phones and texting.
Thirty percent of teens have been text messaged 10, 20 or 30 times an hour by a partner wanting to know where they are, what they’re doing, or who they’re with.
According to a study by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency Focus, approximately one in three adolescent girls in the United States is a victim of physical, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner – a figure that far exceeds victimization rates for other types of violence affecting youth.
“It is critical that we use this month to remember that domestic violence is not just a problem for adults,” said Attorney General Peter F. “The repercussions of teen dating violence are impossible to ignore – they hurt not just the young people victimized but also their families, friends, schools and communities.
